A Rich Sixers History
The Early Years
The Sixers started off as a small franchise in the NBL ( national basketball league)owned by Danny Biasone as the Syracuse Nationals. They were one of the seven teams in the NBL that merged into the NBA. They played at the relatively small Syracuse but had many great players as well. Led by their forward Dolph Schayes they won the NBA Championship in 1955. This would be the first of their three championships.
Wilt Chamberlain Era
In the 1964-65 season the Sixers acquired NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain from the Philadelphia Warriors. He was the leader to the team scoring 50.1 ppg. It is an NBA record!!! The first year he was on the 76ers he led his team to the NBA playoffs semifinals but were defeated by the Boston Celtics. The next season was a dream season. They were only defeated thirteen times the whole season finishing with a record 68-13 their best so far. This year the 76ers played their rivals in the NBA finals again. The Boston Celtics. This time the Sixers crushed the Celtics in five games with wilt chamberlain posting multiple quadruple doubles.
The Struggling Era

The Dr. J era
After the ABA and NBA merged a famous ABA player named Julius Erving decided to play with the Sixers. Almost Immediately the Sixers were boosted from their low record and made the playoffs the first year he came. Unfortunately In 1977 they lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA Finals. For the Next four years the Sixers would repeatedly make the Finals then lose to the other team. In the 82- 83 season the Sixers decided it was time for them to win a championship. They picked up power forward Moses Malone and guard Maurice Cheeks and swept the Lakers on the NBA Finals. This would be their third championship.
The "Sir Charles Era"
With the fifth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Sixers picked Charles Barkley a young player from Auburn University. The dominant power forward would make it to the Hall of Fame years later. He became a famous NBA player
